Rotation A: Patient Research

Staff Number 12 -
You have been assigned a 19 year-old male patient who is a frequent user of smokeless or spit tobacco.

You need to research how smokeless tobacco affects the human body to be able to answer the following questions:

  • What are the two different forms of smokeless (spit) tobacco and how are they different than cigarettes?
  • How does smokeless tobacco affect the mouth and its parts?
  • How does smokeless tobacco affect the throat and the respiratory system overall?
  • How does smokeless tobacco affect the cardiovascular (circulatory system)?

Web Resources (Links)

You need to complete a works cited guide listing the sources (books, Web sites, encyclopedias...) you used to find your information. You should also list any sources you obtained pictures or graphics from. This sheet needs to be turned in at the BEGINNING of Day 3.

Homework due before Rotation B:
Prepare a brief (up to 3 minutes) public service announcement to express your concerns about why young people need to be educated about the dangers of smokeless tobacco. Your announcement should contain all the answers to the above questions. Make a prop/poster that will help you present your findings to the public.
